We educate Alabamians about the importance of equal rights and protections for every resident and every family, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity and expression.

Today, for example, it is legal to fire someone because of their sexual orientation – and it happens.

An inclusive Alabama that protects and celebrates EVERY resident will help us be the best state we can be – and will protect every resident who is proud to call Alabama home.

Educating about the importance of full and equal rights for every Alabamian means holding a meaningful and open conversation in communities all across our state about what this means and how we will achieve it. You can help us educate our community by doing the following:

  1. Become a local EQAL Advocate. By becoming an Advocate, you can become a leader for LGBTQ equality in your local area.

  2. Join an Equality Alabama Committee to help us advance our mission and work. To find our about current opportunities email info@equalityalabama.org

  3. Support local EA events in your area or donate to the Equality Alabama Foundation by clicking here.

If you are the victim of discrimination at work, at school, or in our community, contact us today. We can explain your rights and help connect you to the right people.

Equality Alabama is a statewide advocacy organization for the LGBTQ community. We provide information to the community about important issues and connect individuals to useful resources in our local area. We let people know their rights, and we help them fight for equal treatment.

It takes a whole community to move the bar forward. EA is on the front lines of our fight for full and equal legal protection for every Alabamian. That means fighting for legislation that will expand and protect our rights – YOUR rights. It also means being there to help anyone who needs it.

The LGBTQ community faces unequal and unjust treatment every day. We are here to help them. We advocate for equal rights and treatment for every Alabamian, regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity. Our Board Members and volunteers assist in responding to calls for help and connecting each resident of Alabama with the resources they need.

Founded in 2002, Equality Alabama is a statewide LGBTQ organization consisting of the Equality Alabama Foundation (a 501(c)(3) organization), Equality Alabama (a 501(c)(4) organization), and the Equality Alabama PAC (a state political action committee).

Equality Alabama works statewide to advance equal rights of LGBTQ Alabamians where they live, work, learn, and play through education, legislative advocacy, and political action.

Our vision is to help Alabama become a state where LGBTQ people are valued as full and equal members of society; whose sexual orientation, gender identity or expression is viewed with legal and moral neutrality.

  • We educate about the importance of equal rights for every Alabamian while working to build and participate in collaborative coalitions with organizations that align with the purpose and mission of Equality Alabama.

  • We advocate for local and statewide policies, practices, and legislation that impact and protect equal rights for the LGBTQ community — from family equality to nondiscrimination protections, and beyond.

  • We provide support for any issue, question, or challenge our community members face at work, at home, or in the community, connecting them to essential resources and protections.

Equality Alabama Foundation is a 501(c)(3) public charity. Through it, we provide education, advocacy, and support to advance equal treatment for LGBTQ Alabamians. Donations to the Equality Alabama Foundation are tax deductible to the extent allowed by the law.

Equality Alabama is Equality Alabama's 501(c)(4) social welfare organization. Our mission is to advance equal rights for LGBTQ Alabamians through political advocacy. From meetings with lawmakers and town hall meetings to petitions and educational candidate forums, we're working to improve the everyday lives of Alabama's LGBTQ community where you live, work, learn, and play.
